Patient-specific finite element analysis of transcatheter aortic valve implantation

چکیده
Aortic valve stenosis represents an important public health problem which can be treated through transcatheter aortic valve implantation. Being a quite recent technology, many aspects related to such a minimallyinvasive procedure need further investigation (e.g., paravalvular leakage). The well-established finite element method represents a possible technology to study such aspects within a virtual computer-based framework. Herein, we propose a patient-specific study which includes native leaflets and calcifications with the goal of evaluating the postoperative performance of the implanted prosthetic valve.

Reconstruction of Stent Induced Loading Forces on the Aortic Valve Complex
In order to evaluate the performance of stents used in transcatheter aortic valve implantation (T-AVI), finite element simulations are set up to reconstruct patient specific contact forces between implant and its surrounding tissue. The reference geometry of the stent is obtained using micro-CT scanning data. A procedure is defined to create a numerically efficient and robust model of the stent...

Patient-specific computational models are an established tool to support device development and test under clinically relevant boundary conditions. Potentially, such models could be used to aid the clinical decision-making process for percutaneous valve selection; however, their adoption in clinical practice is still limited to individual cases. To be fully informative, they should include pati...
متن کاملWarning about the Risk of Blood Flow Stagnation after Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation
In this work, the hemodynamics in the sinuses of Valsalva after Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation is numerically examined. We focus on the physical results in the two-dimensional case. We use a finite element methodology based on a Lagrange multiplier technique that enables to couple the dynamics of blood flow and the leaflets’ movement. A massively parallel implementation of a monolithic...

The development of computer-based 3D models of the aortic root is one of the most important problems in constructing the prostheses for transcatheter aortic valve implantation. In the current study, we analyzed data from 117 patients with and without aortic valve disease and computed tomography data from 20 patients without aortic valvular diseases in order to estimate the average values of the...

Until recently, heart valve failure has been treated adopting open-heart surgical techniques and cardiopulmonary bypass. However, over the last decade, minimally invasive procedures have been developed to avoid high risks associated with conventional open-chest valve replacement techniques. Such a recent and innovative procedure represents an optimal field for conducting investigations through ...
